Spectral gap for the zero range process with constant rate
We solve an open problem concerning the relaxation time (inverse spectral gap) of the zero range process in Z/LZ with constant rate, proving an upper bound of O((ρ + 1)L), where ρ is the density of particles.

We introduce a mean-field zero-range process. It is a Markov chain model for a microcanonical ensemble. We prove that the process converges to a fluid limit. The fluid limit rapidly relaxes to the appropriate Gibbs distribution.

We examine the fluctuations of the empirical density measure for the colour version of the symmetric nearest neighbour zero range particle systems in dimension one. We show that the weak limit of these fluctuations is the solution of a system of coupled generalized Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes. We also discuss how this result may be used to prove a central limit theorem for the tagged particle ...

1. Introduction The zero-range process (ZRP) [1] is a simple lattice-based model for driven diffusive systems. For certain choices of parameters, the model exhibits a condensation transition (analogous to Bose-Einstein condensation) where a macroscopic proportion of particles accumulate on a single site [2]. Condensation is well-known in colloidal and granular systems [3] and also occurs in a v...
